Hello, and welcome to The Patient Assistant.
I was sitting at my computer a while ago, trying to figure out a new piece of software.
I hit a wall.
I did what I always do when technology overwhelms me.
I froze.
I stopped what I was doing, walked away, and put on YouTube to ease the frustration.
I’m 64 this year.
I’ve worked in tech, and I still struggle with that kind of paralyzing overwhelm.
When I was a kid, we had a single rotary phone hanging on the wall.
Today, we hold the entire internet in our pockets and talk to artificial intelligence.
I remember talking to my grandfather.
He was born in 1903.
He told me that when he was a teenager, he talked to old men who fought in the Civil War.
Think about the changes they saw in their lives.
Now think about the changes happening today.
It is moving so fast that even people with experience can feel overwhelmed.
I worked in tech for 20 years and I still get overwhelmed sometimes.
So I can only imagine how this feels for someone who did not spend their career around technology.
When things move this fast, it is easy to want to ignore it and hope it goes away.
But it is not going away.
The good news is, you do not have to understand all of it.
You just need a simple, patient way to get unstuck when you need help.
And that is what I hope to give you each week.
I discovered something about this new technology, especially Artificial Intelligence.
It doesn't roll its eyes at you.
It doesn't judge you for asking the same question twice.
It is infinitely patient.
Once a week, I will send you one simple, jargon-free tech tip.
Just plain English on how to avoid scams, protect your independence, and cure the tech freeze.
To make sure I am actually helping you, I have a quick favor to ask.
Hit reply to this email and tell me: What is the number one piece of technology that frustrates you the most right now?
I read every single reply.
